Christmas Cactus!

My Christmas cactus has cooperated and bloomed as it should.

Here is the water lilly that I'm working on for my Leopard Frog quilt.

And here is the leopard frog.

I wish you all a Happy Chanukah, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Motorcycle ride

In addition to arty things, I enjoy riding my motorcycle. This photo is several years old but my bike still looks the same.

My husband and I have a standing date to meet several friends in the circle in front of our house every Sunday morning at 7 am (unless it's raining) for breakfast and a ride in the country. All but one of the regular crew was there yesterday and a new rider acted as photographer.

We chose the Decatur courthouse square as our destination this time.

While in the cafe, we noticed a poster advertising the Traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial – "The Wall That Heals". The Wall happened to be in Decatur this weekend and since we had two veterans in the group we decided to go see it.

It's not as spectacular as the Wall in DC but it was very moving. I recommend you see it if you ever get the chance. www.vvm.org

Birthday Lunch at Bee

Today, 12/12, we celebrated Elaine Truitt's 88th birthday and Virginia Stone's 77th birthday!

I've been a member of this Denton Quilt Guild bee, The Needle Benders, for about 17 years. I feel very fortunate to have the friendship, support and creative enthusiasm provided by these wonderful wise women.

Thank you Ladies!

Handmade Christmas gifts

The Maxine calendar page for December 10 really hit home today.
I'm making felted wool ornaments the I learned to make in Judy Coates Perez's Make It University workshop at Houston Quilt Festival.

I made a kiln full of fused glass earrings.

I made felt needle cases.

I made felt Post It Covers.
And... I made a wool drink cozy out of the sleeve from a cashmere sweater that the moths destroyed!

printmaking inspiration

I attended a VAST (Visual Art Society of Texas) meeting last night. The speaker was printmaker, Brett Dyer, a TWU graduate and instructor at Tarrant County College in Arlington. I enjoyed seeing his work and I imagined several quilts as he showed his work.

I also noticed a sweet little square signature, i think it's called a "chop", on the Quilting Arts Calendar December page. The artist is Marjorie A. DeQuincy. The quilt is “Bloom Anew” based on The Joy Luck Club.

That reminds me... I had my graphic design logo from the 80’s made into a rubber stamp. You may see it in some future quilts.
