Double H High Adventure Base

In June, Berek went on a Boy Scout high adventure trek to Double H Scout Ranch southwest of Albuquerque, NM. The trek was made up of eight scouts, two leaders, and one local guide. These photos were taken by Kelson.

There are no established trails so the scouts used compasses, maps and GPS tracking to find their way in the rugged 10,000 acre ranch.

The highest elevation on the ranch is 7,000 feet.

They came across several critters and evidence of critters.

Berek had a great time.

Drum & Bugle Corp

Drum Corp International came to town on Sunday night. Their website calls it "an intense, choreographed musical experience staged on football stadium fields by students achieving high levels of excellence in performance." I call it great entertainment.

The Troopers from Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Check out the impressive movie on their website of their 2008 show.

Their color guard wore indian costumes. Cute.

The Cavilers have an all male color guard dressed as mountain climbers.

Extra cute!

DCI is in a different city every night.
If you get a chance to see them, you should.

Glorious Morning

This morning we were blessed with a beautiful cool day.
After days in the 100's, it was only 73ยบ!

Nine of us gathered and road east to try a new restaurant near Providence. We arrived before they opened and chose to ride on rather than wait.

We wove our way through the country and ended up at
Lucy's on the square in Celina.

Good food and good company.

I've been very lucky to have a lot of graphic design work this month. This also means I haven't worked on a quilt for a long time. I managed to squeeze in a few hours yesterday afternoon. It was good to make some progress on my fiber artwork. I intend to get the top ready for quilting this afternoon!

Third time's the charm!

After receiving two rejection letters to local shows that I entered this spring, I opened a big white envelope from IQA this week to find The Beetles, Dynastes Hercules has been accepted to International Quilt Festival in Houston this fall. What a nice surprise! I'm all caught up with my graphic design work at the moment, so I'm going to reward myself and work on the next quilt.
