Merging Visions Exhibit

Good Sense
This small quilt, 12 x 23", is my entry into the joint show, Merging Visions: Creating a Unique Experience with Art and Poetry by VAST/DPA (Visual Arts Society of Texas & Denton Poet's Assembly). I illustrated a poem called "Good Sense" by Beth Honeycutt.

The opening receptions on April 4, 1:00 - 4:00 pm will be at the City of Denton's Emily Fowler and North Branch Public Libraries. The exhibits will be on view during the month of April in celebration of National Poetry Month.

Purse Auction

Red Bird Bag
It's made of a recycled wool sweater, hand-me-down tapestry yarn, an old grey suede skirt and rings from an old belt. I purchased the wool roving to fill in the tree, bird and leaves, but the rest is reused. The Greater Denton Arts Council is hosting a purse auction on May 14 at the Center for Visual Arts in Denton. This is my entry for the auction. To donate a purse click here. To attend the auction, here are the details.

Palisades
These are the mini quilts I started in Deborah Boschert's Small Art Quilts: Designing in a Series class. She also has a handmade book describing her method in her Etsy store. I really like this method and plan to do more.

Dallas Quilt Celebration 2009

Here are my entries to the Dallas show. Below is my entry to the Oriental Expressions Challenge Block. It won third place.

This is my entry to the Show Chair's Theme - 3D. It's called "Leopard Frog, Rana Pipiens" and it won an honorable mention. This one is pretty big for me, 45 x 68". I loved quilting the stain background. It's hard to tell in this photo but the water refection on the lilly pads is done with shiva paint sticks. I'll work on getting better photos with detail shots after the show.

This one is called "The Beetles, Dynastes Hercules" and it won first place in the Ultimate Guild Challenge - Wild Kingdom. Yeah! It's also big, 45 x 60". I plan to make some smaller things next year.

Yesterday was a very good day.

Meet Rusty

This is our new dog, Rusty.

Jon has long admired our friend, Gary's black lab, Roady, and made the statement, "If I could find a laid-back dog like Roady, I'd have a dog again."

Gary called from his weekend home in the country on Saturday and said he had our dog. This golden retriever had wandered up to his house and stayed. The neighbors didn't know the dog so Gary brought him home. The dog didn't have a collar and doesn't have a chip. There are no "lost dog" signs at the local Dairy Queen so it looks like we have a new dog. The vet thinks he's 9-12 months old.

Things are going pretty good. Rusty has nice manners and is doing better walking on a leash. We're still trying to work out our family routine. Wish us luck!

Mini Quilt Auction II

Here's my second donation to the mini quilt auction. I call it "Go Green".

The background is made of the trimming from a friend's quilt blocks that I fished out of the trash. The leaf is a felted wool sweater from Goodwill. The purple beads are leftover from another project. The size is 9.5 x 10".

The Mini Quilt Auction is a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House. This mini and many more will be auctioned at Dallas Quilt Celebration 2009 at Market Hall on Saturday, March 14.
