Mini Quilt Auction

Home is Where the Heart is...

The Quilter's Guild of Dallas will host a Mini Quilt Auction to benefit Ronald McDonald House - Dallas on Saturday, March 14 at 1:30 in Dallas Market Hall. The live auction is part of Dallas Quilt Celebration 2009. Here is one of my entries. This art quilt, Home is Where the Heart is..., started life as a workshop sample on creating with type by Traci Bautista's Make It University Class in Houston in 2007.

Eagle Scout!

My son is an Eagle Scout! We celebrated his achievement last Sunday with a nice service attended by his loyal leaders, fellow scouts, family and friends. We are blessed to have this wonderful circle of support in our lives and we are so proud of our son!

60th Birthday party

Last Thursday we attended the 60th birthday party for one of our motorcycle buddies. We were asked to wear a costume that reminded the birthday boy of a time period or event in his life. My husband and I had a blast looking for a 60's/70's costume.

Jon actually had a 'fro like this in the 70's. Yikes!

The cake was made of Hostess snowballs with red hots and mini marshmallows scattered around. Wax Coke bottles, vintage candy, cracker jacks, and tiny glass Coke bottles with peanuts were available for appetizers.

Dinner was yummy comfort food: ribs, homemade mac & cheese, baked beans, slaw, deviled eggs and biscuits.

This fun "sushi tray" added to the snowball cake for dessert. Groovy!

We went home with a Pez dispenser, Twinkies, Silly Putty, a water gun, a Slinky and more candy. What nostalgic fun!

QGD Postcard Challenge

It's been a while since I've had time to post. I've been busy working for my graphic design clients in addition to planning my son's Eagle Court of Honor. Last weekend, I managed to attend a reenergizing four-day retreat with friends from Denton, Terrell, and Houston, TX and Carencro, LA. My life is just starting to calm down a bit.

On February 1 I finished and mailed these four postcards for the Quilter's Guild of Dallas' Postcard Challenge. The entries will be on display at Dallas Quilt Celebration '09 March 13-15. The lime, blue and orange fabric plus the eyelash yarn were provided and had to be included on the postcard. I used Deborah Boschert's, Small Art Quilts – Designing in a Series method of doing several at the same time. I used purple acrylic felt as the batting. The felt is colorful but a little too flimsy for mailing.
